Managing Devices
Registering, renaming, disabling and deleting sensors — and keeping the webhook URL secret.
Device management requires the Owner role. Members can view the fleet but not change it.
Registering a sensor
- On the Devices page choose Register Device.
- Enter a name, pick the model, and type the serial number printed on the sensor (letters, digits and dashes; case doesn't matter — we normalise it).
- BitOculus shows the device's webhook URL once — our installers configure the sensor with it. If you ever need it again, use Show webhook URL from the device menu.
Sensors buffer up to 90 days of data internally, so anything counted before registration completes is delivered once the device connects — nothing is lost.
The webhook URL is a credential
It contains the device's secret ingest token. Treat it like a password: anyone holding it could submit data as that device. Viewing it is restricted to Owners, and every view is recorded in the Audit Log — including the automatic first view at registration.
Renaming, disabling, deleting
- Edit Device — rename, or toggle Enabled. Disabling makes BitOculus reject the sensor's data until you re-enable it (the sensor keeps buffering meanwhile).
- Delete Device — removes the device and all analytics data it recorded. This is permanent; the deletion itself remains in the Audit Log.
Data retention
Device data is kept according to your plan — 12 months on Storefront, 2 years on Flagship, 3 years on Network — after which a monthly job removes records older than the retention window. Longer retention is available as an add-on; contact us.
